SGoons Tattoo Supply got its eclectic name from a little district in Singapore called Serangoon, where owner and founder Michael Riff Vestil began his story as a tattoo mogul.

Before being enamored by tattoo artistry, Michael was an architect. As he was starting out and developing his love for tattoo art, his family was hesitant to support him in such a “taboo” endeavor, one they saw as being for “punks and gangsters.”

In the Philippines, that view of unorthodox art isn’t out of the ordinary. People often see tattoos as a disrespect to the body. Michael doesn’t believe so. He considers tattooing a beautiful, cathartic way of expressing one’s identity.

Vestil won the Singapore Ink Show Competition two years in a row, in 2018 and 2019, which further established his craft in tattoo art.

SGoons Tattoo Shop started in 2010 in Singapore and eventually made its way to the Philippines. On August 13, Vestil and SGoons brand director Chelonae Damayo launched a new branch focused on tattoo supply retail.

Their shared goal is to give tattoo artists accessible, affordable supplies. Tattoo supplies are a niche market, and many artists used to buy from overseas to get quality gear. Now they don’t have to.

The pair want to go beyond being a tattoo supply brand. They want to support tattoo artistry by being the backbone of the tattoo community, and to break the stigma that tattoos, and the people who support them, are immoral. Tattooing is simply a way to express the human soul.
